Hōkūle'a

Hōkūle'a is a water loving adventure kitty!

Hōkūle'a's favorite thing to do is playing in the backyard while it rains, going to the beach, chasing lizards and napping under the bedsheets.

Hōkūle'a loves tuna and salmon and cardboard boxes of any size

What kind of adventures does Hōkūle'a go on?

Surfing mostly. Also swimming.

Tell us about your most memorable adventure.

Surfing in Hawaii, everyday it's a new adventure!

Why did you decide to train Hōkūle'a?

We noticed that, strangely, Hoku didn't mind water at all: he goes playing in the yard when it's pouring rain and he enjoys jumping in the bathtub when we're taking a bath.

So one day we took him to the beach...

How did you train Hōkūle'a?

We didn't do much, he's naturally comfortable in the water.

He's a very fast swimmer.

But he gets very nervous when he sees dogs, unknown humans or he hears loud noises like car/boat engines, so we make sure the surroundings are quite and not crowded.

What has been the most rewarding part of having a catexplorer?

Sharing the adventures together.

What has been the hardest?

We don't want to make him stress out, so we always have to make sure that he's comfortable when we go in the ocean.

We always bring fresh water to wash out the salt water after surfing, we dry him with a towel, give him a warming massage then drinking water and a snack and avoid direct sun.

In hindsight, what would you do differently?

Nothing. So far so good!

But we're going to buy a bigger board so he can stand easily without sliding too much.

What advice would you give other humans training their catexplorers?

Observe your cat and try to understand what he likes or dislike.

Never force him to do anything and pay much attention to his health.
